⁴⁰ “‘But if they will confess^(A) their sins^(B) and the sins of their ancestors^(C)—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, ⁴¹ which made me hostile^(D) toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts^(E) are humbled^(F) and they pay^(G) for their sin, ⁴² I will remember my covenant with Jacob^(H) and my covenant with Isaac^(I) and my covenant with Abraham,^(J) and I will remember the land.

⁶ “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way^[a] and so is unfaithful^(A) to the Lord is guilty^(B)

⁷ and must confess^(A) the sin they have committed. They must make full restitution^(B) for the wrong they have done, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the person they have wronged.

²⁹ But if from there you seek^(A) the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart^(B) and with all your soul.^{(C) 30} When you are in distress^(D) and all these things have happened to you, then in later days^(E) you will return^(F) to the Lord your God and obey him. ³¹ For the Lord your God is a merciful^(G) God; he will not abandon^(H) or destroy^(I) you or forget^(J) the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

²⁹ Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me^(A) and keep all my commands^(B) always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!^(C)

Prosperity After Turning to the Lord

30 When all these blessings and curses^(A) I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,^{(B) 2} and when you and your children return^(C) to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart^(D) and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, ³ then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes^[a](E) and have compassion^(F) on you and gather^(G) you again from all the nations where he scattered^(H) you.^{(I) 4} Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens,^(J) from there the Lord your God will gather^(K) you and bring you back.^{(L) 5} He will bring^(M) you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous^(N) than your ancestors. ⁶ The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants,^(O) so that you may love^(P) him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. ⁷ The Lord your God will put all these curses^(Q) on your enemies who hate and persecute you.^{(R) 8} You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. ⁹ Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land.^(S) The Lord will again delight^(T) in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, ¹⁰ if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law^(U) and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.^(V)
